The Racine Fire Department was chartered on March 23rd, 1973. The first board of directors that chartered the department was President Chase Hill, Vice President Porter Snodgrass, Secretary Jackie S., Treasures Forest Thomas, and Trustees Ralph Fry, Hevans, and George R. Clendenen, and Chief Steve Snodgrass. The first meetings were held at the Club Scout House located in Short Creek, WV. One of the first trucks the department had was an American LaFrance and came in the last part of September of 1973. The truck was housed in the bottom of Cantley’s Exxon, also located in Short Creek, WV. Another truck was added in 1974, named Engine 1.

In 1976 the Racine Fire Department moved to a station located in Short Creek. A year later in 1977 the Racine Fire Department started an ambulance service, which employed three paid personnel. The ambulance service had their own separate board of directors; these members put their own homes up for collateral to purchase the first ambulance, which cost $10,000. The ambulance service ended in 1982, were it had been turned over to the county.

As the department grew, the need for a new station was greatly needed. In 1998 the completion of the new station, moved the department to Racine next to the Racine Park. The new station consists of six bays, large activity room with large kitchen, day room, up-stairs exercise room and storage, assortment of offices and maintenance room.
